Gear Motions Links Up with Syracuse City School District's CTE Team
Prior to students venturing back to school for the 2022-2023 school year teachers from the Syracuse City School District joined the team at Gear Motions, in Syracuse as part of the Smart Start Program.
“The Smart Start Externship Program began two years ago thanks to a Smart Start Grant. The primary objective is to expose and help K-12 students with digital literacy,” stated Bruno Primerano, Director of Career and Technical Education (CTE) at Syracuse City School District. Mr. Primerano’s team at CTE expanded on this objective by providing teachers a platform to spend a few hours at various businesses throughout the summer to gain knowledge that they can bring back to the classroom and develop interdisciplinary project-based lesson plans that focus on collaboration, communication and problem solving, which as Mr. Primerano stated are all necessary for career readiness and employability.
What stood out to Mr. Primerano and the group of teachers was the size, cleanliness, and the precision and technical knowhow that the production team has, to make gears for companies like Harley Davidson and the fact that it is all happening right here in their backyard.
“Our team was honored to participate in this year’s program as we hope to spark interest and excitement in a career in manufacturing,” stated Dean Burrows, President and CEO of Gear Motions.
