Celebrating International Women in Engineering Day!
Today, we shine a spotlight on one of our incredible engineers at Gear Motions, Brittany Dankiw. Sharing her inspiring journey in engineering.
Growing up, Brittany always wanted to understand how things worked. Her father, who shares her curiosity, encouraged her. Combined with her love for math and science, it was a natural path towards engineering.
For Brittany, graduating with a Bachelor of Engineering in mechanical engineering and obtaining a U.S. Coast Guard Engine License stands out. The rigorous 4-year program, including sea terms aboard the training ship, challenged her to apply textbook knowledge to real-life situations. It’s a proud milestone.
Her journey wasn’t typical. Pursuing mechanical engineering alongside a U.S. Coast Guard License meant navigating through male-dominated fields and stereotypes about women on ships. Brittany had to work extra hard to earn respect and prove her capabilities. Each new environment brought its own challenges, but she persevered by staying focused on her goals.
Some advice Brittany shares is always be true to yourself and embrace who you are. Seek support from allies and fellow engineers. Remember, every step forward opens doors for others. Educate and inspire, and you’ll pave the way for future generations of women in engineering.
Let’s celebrate her achievements and all women engineers who are breaking barriers and inspiring others!
