Manufacturing Day 2018

The Team at Gear Motions’ Nixon Gear Division served as a host company for Manufacturing Day 2018. We were one of over 2,000 registered Manufacturing Day events in the United States.

What is Manufacturing Day?

Manufacturing Day Logo 2018According to Mfg Day’s website, “Manufacturing Day is a celebration of modern manufacturing meant to inspire the next generation of manufacturers and occurs on the first Friday in October.”

There is a common misconception that manufacturing is a dirty, dangerous, and outdated industry. Manufacturing Day helps to correct this misconception by encouraging manufacturing companies across the country to open their doors and invite the next generation of the workforce into their factories to see firsthand what modern manufacturing is really all about.

Nixon Gear served as one of the host companies for the 9th Annual Manufacturing Careers Day in partnership with Partners for Education & Business (PEB) and the Manufacturers Association of Central New York (MACNY).

This morning, we hosted two groups of students from three different school districts in the area, including about 60 students in total.

Later in the day, we also hosted a group from CenterState CEO’s Pro-Train program, consisting mainly of adult individuals who are transitioning into new career opportunities.

Manufacturing Day activities at Nixon included a facility tour with stops in just about every area of the company, including many work cells, departments such as ID/OD grinding and gear grinding, the quality lab, and the front office.

The students were enthusiastic and asked lots of great questions throughout the day.

We’re proud to have been able to serve as a host for this important day and hope we have been successful in the mission of Manufacturing Day; to encourage the next generation to pursue careers in modern manufacturing.
